Thoovanam gathering momentum before its release.
This is the latest news which appeared in The Hindu issue dated August 17, 2007 about this movie.
“Thoovanam” — the soft drizzle that follows a heavy down pour — is the title of the film through which Haricharan and Newton begin their career as directors. Also it is the first film for Nethra, the heroine. C amera has been handled by veteran Madhu Ambat.
The film was recently screened for some of the bigwigs of the industry. They congratulated the directors on coming up with a meaningful movie.
It is a love story, all right. But it is the way how the emotion shared between the hero and the heroine affects a wide circle of people has been told that makes the difference, according to Haricharan. Intrigue and suspense add spice to the tale, he says.Positive feedback
“We have deviated from clichés and were actually apprehensive when the film went for censor. But we have been rewarded with a positive feedback,” he adds.
Produced by Sri Vaishnavi Productions along with Sree Veeramathi Productions, ‘Thoovanam’ has Nethra and Aaditya in the lead with Mauryaa, Tusharaa, Lakshmi, Ponnumani and Suraj doing key roles. Both Sriman and Bhanuchander are making special appearances.
Ganesh, who was spotted in a TV show, is said to have done very well and is already referred to as “Low Budget Vadivelu.”
The song rendered by Parasuram (violinist and singer) has been picturised using computer graphics. Shooting at the busy Kuber Bazaar brought traffic to a standstill but the local people took charge of the situation allowing the unit to continue with the work.
Director Haricharan pats himself on his back for keeping in touch with the meteorological department to decide schedules. He recalls the night he cancelled the shoot much to the chagrin of the unit members. His decision was vindicated by the thunderstorm that lashed the city at midnight. At least a lakh of rupees was saved, he thinks. Intensive rehearsals
Two of the hero’s friends in the film were made to work at Burma Bazaar for almost three months to get the spoken and body language right for the film. In fact, all the characters went through intensive rehearsals to prepare and perfect them for their respective roles. A couple of artists did not show up for rehearsals owing to the hard work and intensive coaching.
Both Aaditya and Nethraa acted with total involvement. Tusharaa, grand daughter of the late Maragatham Chandrashekar and born with hearing disability, is said to have performed remarkably well.
The unit remembers with sadness the call Haricharan’s wife got from cinematographer Jeeva from Russia. He promised to be present at the preview. But that was not to be. During the first show, at the request of Haricharan, the audience observed three-minute silence before the start of the preview.
All the lyrics were first penned and then the music was composed by the Malayalam award winning music director Isaac Thomas. Haricharan cherishes the complement paid by actor Sivakumar on seeing the film.
