Nenjaithodu is a love story with new kind of a story, every scene inthis movie will be very new and fresh. It is of a poetic nature. The debutant hero has done well his part it seems and so as LakshmiRai. The main highlight of the movie is the climax, the director has given a special touch to this film in the climax.

Cheenikum - Audio Review

Its been long time now. I was not able to update my blog for quite sometime as i was busy with my office schedule.

I was able to grab a copy of Cheenikum soundtrack which means sugar less.

Cheenikum, another old man love story after nishabd starring the Big B and TaBu which is going to hit the screen this week.

The songs of this film are already raving in leading music channels.

The Music for the film, scored by Maestro Ilayaraja.

Ilayaraja had used four of his popular tamil film tunes for this film.

Being ilayaraja and Shreya ghoshal fan, it is double bonanza for me to listen to the music tracks of this film.

The film has five songs and two melody instrumental bits. Out of which one song is repeated.

1. Cheeni kum – shreya ghoshal

My favourit singer shreya ghoshal had sung this song beautifully and it is pleasant to hear her voice again and again.

2. Baatein hawa hai – shreya ghoshal and amitabh bachan

Another slow melody from shreya ghoshal which is treat to listen with dialogues of Big B in between.

3. Jaane do na – shreya ghoshal

Shreya ghoshal has sung this song superbly.

4. Sooni sooni – vijay prakash

This song is the male version of Cheenikum sung by Shreya Ghoshal. After listening to Vijay prakash’s voice I thought it would have been a delight if ilayaraja would have used S.P.Balasubramaniam for this song.

Recommendation – CD

PUNCHLINE : Cheenikum – TASTE JAADHA !

For Tamil Viewers / Listeners :

1. Cheenikum song sung by Shreya Ghoshal is inspired by Mandram Vantha Thendralukku song sung by S.P.Balasubramaniam for the film Mouna Raagam.

2. Baatein hawa hai song sung by shreya ghoshal is inspired by tamil song “kuzhal oothum kannanuku kuyil paadum paatu kaetkutho, koo koo” from Mella Thiranthadhu Kadhavu, the film, which music was jointly composed by Mellisai Mannar M.S.Viswanathan and Maestro Ilayaraja.

3. Jaane do na song sung by shreya ghoshal is inspired by tamil song “ Vizhiyilae" song from the film Nooravathu NaaL. Indha vizhiyilae song, enakku romba pidikkum. It was scintillating to hear the same tune with my favourit singer shreya singing the tunes.

4. Sooni sooni song sung by Vijay Prakash is the male hindi version of Mandram Vantha Thendralukku song sung by S.P.Balasubramaniam for the film Mouna Raagam. Though his voice looks rusty, I would say he has not spoiled the original version.

Ammuvaagiya Naan - Tamil Movie - Audio Review / Preview

Pathiban is ready for his next production. Originally titled Azhagigal, the film is now called Ammuvaagiya Naan

It is produced by Parker Brothers of Pallavan fame and directed by Padmamagan.

A Parthiban film is known for its novel story line and scenes. That’s the same in this film too, says the director. 'Usually films start with wide eyed looks ending in love. In this film, it starts with lust and ends in love in a story full of flesh and blood,' says Padmamagan.

Parthiban becomes writer again after Thenral and his leading lady is Bharathi. When other actresses did not have the guts to take up the role, Bharathi is supposed to have bravely accepted the character of one who willingly gets into the flesh trade. Till this film is over, she will not accept any more assignments.

Camera is by MS Prabhu who showed his talent in Ramana and Thavamaai Thavamirundhu. The shooting is taking place in Chennai, Pondicherry and Gingee and is due for release in May / June 2007.

This film contains 5 songs. One song is sung by male and female.

Nenjaithodu - Tamil Movie - A preview

NRI producers are rapidly on the rise in Tamil filmdom. The latest entrants are Divine Creations (U.K.) and DC Entertainment, producers of ‘Nenjai Thodu.’ Also it seems to be a season of new leading men in Tamil cinema. Gemini, a new face, enters films as hero with ‘Nenjai Thodu.’ Being written and directed by P.Ae. Rajkannan, whose first film it is, ‘Nenjai …’ has Lakshmi Rai playing heroine. “Every scene will be fresh and the entire film will be like a beautiful piece of poetry,” says Rajkannan. “The climax shot in a railway station near Kanchipuram, will be a highlight,” he adds.

Interestingly, all the songs in this film are well tuned by Music Director Srikkanth Deva.

Yaaradi Nee Mohini - A preview

Dhanush and Nayantara come together for the first time in ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini.’

With the story and dialogue departments taken care of by brother Selvaraghavan, Dhanush will be acting under the direction of Mithran R. Jawahar. Jawahar has worked as an associate director of Selvaraghavan. Song sequences and a few important scenes will be shot in Italy and meanwhile shooting is on in Chennai, Hyderabad, Pollachi and Kerala.

A remake of Selvaraghavan’s Telugu film starring Venkatesh and Trisha, ‘Aadavari Maatalaku Ardhale Verulae,’ which is doing brisk business, expectation about ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ is high.

Marudhamalai - Tamil Movie - A Preview

“In the past decade of acting, ‘Marudhamalai’ is one film that has given me complete satisfaction after ‘Mudhalvan’,” says its hero Arjun. Arjun plays a police official in the film. Then will it be a serious action film? “No,” says director Suraaj. With Vadivelu joining the hero there’ll no dearth of comedy,” he assures. Nila and Tamanna are the heroines. This is Suraaj’s second project after his successful debut, ‘Thalainagaram.’ Oscar Films is producing ‘Marudhamalai’ on a mega scale, with elaborate fight sequences, each shot for nearly a fortnight in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai. So Arjun fans can watch out for some exciting fare!

Evano Oruvan - Madhavan

I have been promoting Dombivali Fast (Marathi) and Evano Oruvan, remake of Dombivali fast in my columns.

Its a good movie and I dont want anyone to miss this film be it in Marathi or in Tamizh.

For tamizh viewers, the interesting point to note is, the dialogues of Tamizh version EvanO Oruvan is written by none other than Actor Madhavan himself.

Why was Madhavan keen on ‘Evano Oruvan?’ Read on.

A defining moment in Madhavan’s life was when he heard of a movie called ‘Dombivli Fast.’ Or perhaps when on a whim he took a flight to Mumbai to see the movie. Or perhaps it was when he was watching it, he decided that he wanted to act in its Tamil remake, ‘Evano Oruvan.’ Now the wait is on for another defining moment — the release of the movie, which, he hopes, will prove to be another landmark in his career. “I have never been so mesmerised by a film like I was after seeing ‘Dombivli Fast.’ I lost all bearing, all composure. I was so impressed that I caught hold of the movie’s director, Nishikant, and told him that I wanted to do the Tamil remake at any cost,” he says.

The performance of Sandeep Kulkarni in the lead role left him unnerved. “I was driven to tears by his performance. Even though I desperately wanted to do the movie, I lost my confidence.”
‘Evano Oruvan,’ says Madhavan, is the story of a normal, middle-class man Sridhar Vasudevan, who leads a very mundane lifestyle. It shows what happens when he sees all the wrongs around him and starts reacting to them.

Madhavan says that the role of Sridhar Vasudevan proved as much a challenge as the role of the ruffian Inbasekhar in ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu,’ which he thinks was one of the toughest in his career. “In most other movies I have done, the roles required me to have a screen presence. They demanded that I be perceived as a hero. But in ‘Evano Oruvan,’ I had to blend in with the junior artistes. I had to look like a common man… which was very tough.”

Though the original was in Marathi, Madhavan says the remake is as Tamil as can be.
He is “very proud” of writing the dialogue for ‘Evano Oruvan,’ his first attempt in Tamil. “I had earlier written the dialogue for ‘Ramji Londonwale’ in Hindi [the remake of ‘Nala Damayanthi’], but this time round it was very tough. Getting the local flavour right was a major challenge. Also, he had director Seeman, who is also playing a role in the movie, providing “total, hardcore support.”

Madhavan bemoans the lack of good and well-researched scripts in Tamil. Even the Hindi industry is coming out with interesting scripts like ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘Rang De Basanti,’ but they are not available here,” he says.Permanent fixture

He has been a permanent fixture in all of Mani Ratnam’s films, but now he seems to be enlarging this group to include Seeman and Nishikant too. “Mani Sir is a maverick filmmaker and has very strong likes and dislikes. You will never be criticised for your role in a Mani Ratnam movie because he will make sure he gets what he wants from you as an actor.”

Seeman is a professional and a passionate filmmaker, says Madhavan. “It is a joy to work in a Seeman film because all the arguments/fights on the script are over before we start the shooting. I just have to follow his instructions and act out my scenes.” No wonder that he is doing Seeman’s ‘Vazhthukkal,’ a movie about relationships and a sort of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ in Tamil, and ‘Pagalavan’, his first cop movie.

Next year, he will start work on his second movie with Nishikant in Hindi. Also in the pipeline are ‘Aarya’ and ‘Leelai’ (produced and presented by Ram Gopal Varma). He will start work on Prathap Pothen’s ‘Oru Naal Podhuma’, which he describes as ‘Alai Payuthey – Part II.’

Apart from the reel world, Maddy has established his presence in the virtual world too. He is a character in two games “MiG” and “Madhavan.” But what actually gives him a kick, he says, is flying “remote-controlled helicopters.” Maybe that is what helps him aim for loftier heights.

Tryst with a music monarch - MSV

Always ahead of his times, M.S.Viswanathan inspires and influences composers big and small.

The music that wafts through the spacious third floor apartment at Valmiki Nagar, Chennai, indicates it’s composing time at the household. Even as your hands hesitatingly reach for the bell, the door opens and you are welcomed into a melodious milieu.

M.S.Viswanathan — the name that casts a spell on millions of music buffs worldwide, is back in action. “What do you mean? I’ve always been in action. If you are making a movie let me know, I’ll work for you,” he guffaws. The septuagenarian is now the composer of a film titled, ‘Vaaliban Sutrum Ulagam.’ (‘Ulagam Sutrum Vaaliban’ was one of MGR’s mega hits). Smiles MSV: “The hero looks a lot like MGR. Vaali is the lyricist.”Not hi-tech

Music gizmos are not for him. Even today it’s a live orchestra he’s comfortable with. “But handling hi-tech stuff also needs skill. Only that I believe in full-fledged rehearsals. Why, I can’t even operate that radish in your hand,” he cheekily points out to your mobile.
Infirmity can’t keep the veteran away from the magic of music — magic he has created over the years and which still breathes fresh. He refutes the argument about changing tastes of youngsters. “Recently there was this teenager at one of our shows at Puducherry. He sent up a note requesting us to sing ‘Ninaippadhellam …’ a song we composed 38 years ago for ‘Nenjil Or Alayam,’” he says.

Teaming up with T.K. Ramamurthy in the first few decades of his career, MSV continued to create mesmerising pieces after the two parted ways. He has tried innovations rarely attempted by film composers of his era. The strikingly different beats for the ‘Vellikinnam Dhaan’ song, use of traditional percussion for an item number, trying out the raga with just four notes (Mahati — the song, ‘Adhisaya Raagam …’), eloquently adopting merely five instruments for a song and a 100 for another — the feats have been incredible! “I like to experiment,” he smiles simply.

Every song in Sivaji Ganesan’s ‘Karnan’ is a scintillating exercise and stirs you to this day. “Producer-director Panthulu sent Kannadasan and me to Bangalore for composing. They were ready in just three days! Those were the times when we never went out of the recording studio to work. ‘If you have it in you, you can even compose on the beach. Only that people could drop a few coins if you had your towel lying there,’ Kannadasan would quip,” recalls MSV. The lyricist-composer duo has given many riveting songs to Tamil cinema. “Matter, meter, melody are all I know,” he says softly.

These days we have singers mushrooming with every film. But MSV didn’t use many fresh talents, though a few such as Yesudas made it. “It wasn’t in my hands. Producers have the last word and when they wanted established singers I had no choice. See Ananthu here. He’s a great talent and he’s been with me for a decade now, and I’m still trying to get him a break. Each one’s time has to come,” is his philosophical response.

Besides solos and humming in his own films Viswanathan has sung for many other composers too. The Rahman composition he sang was a major hit. “One morning Rahman called me up and requested I sing for ‘Sangamam.’ I was hesitant and thought I’d go in person and tell him so. But there was a festive air at his place and I got to know it was his birthday. I didn’t have the heart to say ‘no’ then. So I went ahead. Only my voice was recorded. And when I heard it with the BGM and Hariharan’s voice joining mine, I was floored.” MSV is always lavish in his praise when he notices potential.Into acting

For a few years now he has been into acting too. “It happened by chance. Director Saran and actor Vivek were after me to do a role in ‘Kaadhal Mannan.’ The next thing I knew Kamal Haasan insisted I do a role.”

MSV recalls an incident when he met Sivaji Ganesan at a wedding. “ He looked at me seriously and said, ‘Viswanathan, I’m planning to make music for films. I saw your performance.’ I jokingly retorted, “It’s your fate that you had to see me act. And if you compose it will be my fate to have to listen to it.” He recalls the exchange with laughter.

There’s yet another facet of MSV — that of producer. “That was a blunder. AVM Chettiar used to tell me, ‘Goddess Saraswati has blessed you amply. Don’t try anything else…’” For a moment he is pensive.

No conversation with MSV is complete without his reference to Hindi film composer Naushad. “He’s like God to me. Imagine my joy when he came to my concert in Mumbai, sat through the entire show, and even sent a note asking for the song, ‘Odam Nadhiyinilae …’ [A memorable strain by Sirkazhi Govindarajan],” he says.

M.S.Viswanathan’s achievements are awesome (check out msvtimes.com), and his simplicity, stunning!

Now coming to the story,

Unnale Unnale" is a story about an educated urban youth caught in a love tangle. Director-cinematographer Jeeva's latest flick is a cool romantic treat after his successful films "12B" and"Ullam Ketkume".

It's simple and emotive. Jeeva's camera, Harris Jayaraj's music and the dialogue of S. Ramakrishnan make the film gripping.

The most part of the film was shot in Australia.

Here goes the story...Karthik (Vinay), a software professional, and Jhansi (Sada) are lovers. Jhansi is an introvert and so possessive of her handsome boyfriend that she would not bear even a sight of his turning and having a look at another girl. But Karthik is a broadminded youngster with a modern outlook. Though he loves only Jhansi he is very sociable and mingles with other girls also. Jhansi becomes wary of Karthik's conduct and concludes he is a voyeur. This leads to clashes between them and she decides to distance herself from Karthik.

In this background, Karthik gets a job in Melbourne, Australia, and on his flight meets Deepika (Tanisha), a jovial and outgoing personality and they become friends. Unexpectedly Karthik runs into Jhansi in Melbourne. As it happens, Deepika is Jhansi's roommate and learns about the relationship between Karthik and Jhansi back in India and what caused the rift between them. Deepika understands Jhansi's feelings and tries to bring her and Karthik together.

In the process, Deepika herself falls in love with Karthik. How this romantic tangle is resolved makes the film a winner.

Cool and composed Vinay (the like of Madhavan) and bubbly Tanisha (Kajol's younger sister), portray their characters realistically. Sadha as a possessive introvert and egoistic lover has taken lots of pain to put in her best. This is not something new to her. She had done in Priyasakhi and Anniyan. Its a cake walk for her.

The story is laced with comedy by Raju Sundaram and Srinath. Director Jeeva, who doubles up as cinematographer, vividly captures the picturesque Melbourne skyline in its entire splendor.

Harris Jayaraj's music strikes an instant chord with the audience. Three songs, including the title song, have already become hits. The background score has a lingering effect. With only three characters the director has made "Unnale Unnale" a gripping tale.

Watch this film, only for its good locations and frame to frame PHOTOGRAPHY.
