Now to the story,

This is Priya V's second directorial offering after "Kanda Naal Mudhal" produced by Prakash Raj's Duet Movies. Having worked with master directors like Mani Rathnam, Priya presented the story of a father clashing with a boy who loves his daughter, with a touch of artistry and humour. Sathyaraj, veteran as he is, steals the show with his superlative performance. The story meanders with a large cast and the result is the impact is not telling. A few situations look out of place. Here goes the story.

Prithviraj, a software architect in Singapore, meets Sandhya, who is a psychiatry student doing her course in Malaysia and instantly falls in love with her. After a lot of chasing and hide and seek, he wins her heart. She informs her father (Sathyaraj), who is the Commissioner of Police, Chennai, about her affair and brings

Prithviraj to her house to introduce him to her family. Everyone, except her father (Sathyaraj) accepts him. A tough cop, Sathyaraj is against his daughter's wish and turns hostile to Prithviraj. Insults are heaped on him and eventually driven out. This leads to squabbling in the close-knit family, and the mother, (Radhika) leaves the house with her daughter in a huff.Prithviraj lost his parents at a young age has been brought up by his uncle (Radha Ravi), an orthodox Brahmin. The uncle has his own vested interests and contributes his bit to the turmoil.

Sripriya provides a surprise twist. The story takes a turn when after all the drama, Sandhya spurns Prithvi. The confrontation between the stubborn cop and his wife over the boy on the one side and the yearnings of the lovers to be united in wedlock on the other are well layered but not without glitches. Comedy runs all through the film. The hero chasing the heroine or vice versa has become the staple of almost every film, including "Kannamoochi Enada", but what makes it different is that the girl's father is seen in the boxing ring.

The narration is laboured as the story starts at Kuala Lumpur and stretches to Chennai and then Ooty. What started as a verbal duel between Sathyaraj and Prithiviraj turns nasty with Sathyaraj, as Cop resorting to physical violence, which does not go down well. His action comedy and other histrionics are not in keeping with his image and style.Radhika played her role perfectly. She sparkles in some sequences. Her sentiments and emotions are projected in contrasting angles. Prithvi is suave and matches the performance of Sathyaraj.

Sandhya's role takes the backseat when Sathyaraj comes up-front. Sripriya is adequate for the character.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's score especially "Kannamoochi" and the remix "Anru Vantha Nila" stand out.Preetha's camera work is pleasing. Siva Kumar's dialogues are crispy.

Not many women are into film direction and Priya deserves all encouragement.

PUNCHLINE: KANNAMOOCHI YAENADA - Kichu kichu pannumda!

My rating: 3/5 * * * (1 point more just for encouraging the lady director priya)
