Pallikoodam is a good effort by cinematographer-turned director Thangar Bachan who has taken up a social cause and made a gripping story of it with the right mix of romance, emotion and nostalgia. The film is about a village school falling into ruins and the noble cause of rebuilding it brings a group of old students together. And they are taken down memory lane.

The movie revolves around five central characters played by Thangar Bachan, Naren, Sneha, director Seeman and Sreeya Reddy. An off-beat movie like his earlier "Azhagi", "Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy" and "Solla Maranda Kathai", "Pallikoodam" is Bhachan's contribution to promoting social causes that cry for collective action. The story is an adaptation of Bachan's novel "Kalavadiya Pozhudugal". Here goes the story...A school in a remote village, Pallavamangalam, is facing insurmountable problems and the government has ordered its demolition. Kumarasamy (Thangar Bachan), a farm-hand, and other villagers are desperate to save the institution and they seek to enlist the help of old students.

The lead character, Vetrivel (Naren), who is a former student of the school, is working as the District Collector of Kancheepuram. Another old student is Muthu (Seeman), who has become a cinema director. Kokila (Sneha), who studied with Vetrivel in the same school, now works as a teacher there. Sreeya Reddy, who is a nurse running a dispensary, had also studied in that school. Vetrivel finds himself in an embarrassing situation when he is called to the village to join the other old students for the cause.

Then the audience is taken on a nostalgic journey in a flashback.Vetrivel, son of a potter, falls in love with Kokila, daughter of a rich landlord in the village. Jhansi (Sreeya Reddy) is driven out of the village for encouraging the love between Vetrivel and Kokila. Their romance breaks.Kumarasamy is the friend of Vetrivel, Seeman and Sneha. Memories of their school days come flooding when they meet. Their emotions at a function organized to highlight the cause, are touching.
