Pallikkoodam - Tamil Movie - Audio Review

Cinematographer - Director Thangar Bachchan is busy giving final touches to his movie Pallikoodam. Taking time off his busy schedule, Thangar threw light on the movie. "Pallikoodam is a movie which talks about the system of education in the country. Youths get educated in the country and go work for foreign countries.

Pallikoodam takes a closer look at them. The movie features Sneha, Thimiru fame Shreya, Chithiram pesudhadi Narain and director Seeman in prominent roles.

This is Narains third film after Chithiram pesudhadi and Nenjirukkum Varai." Recently i saw Narains interview in Jaya TV which was hosted by suchithra which was good to watch. He was mentioning about this movie and its expectation in the interview. This reminded me a friend of mine in abroad who is a big fan of Narain and wanted to meet him when visiting india next. In this interview, he was told about his overacting in Nenjirukkum varai especially in climax scenes. Though he reluctant first to accept this, he later said jokingly, he will under-act wherever it is necessary.

Thangar Bachan said, he wanted a Tamil actress who can emote well. Sneha fits the bill well. Shreya Reddy has been impressive as a medico. Narain as District Collector has given a commendable performance. Besides Thangar and Seeman play pivotal roles in the movie.
"Pallikoodam will be a movie not just to entertain masses but alsoleaves a strong message," adds Thangar!

Now coming to the audio of this movie, the film has following songs:

1. Meendum paLLikku
Sung by Bharathwaj
Written by Snehan

2. Indha nimidam
Sung by Srinivas and Janani
Written by Na.Muthukumar

3. Kaadu padhungurOmae

Written by Vivega

4. onbathu manikku

5. Manasu maruguthae
Sung by Subiksha & Narayanan
Written by Thaenmozhi

6. Rose Mary

His wish is to score more music in Tamizh.

Indha padathin muthal paadal "kangaL en kangaLo" first hearinglaeye enna romba kavarntha paadal.. naan izhantha urchagathai ellam, nodi pozhuthil thirumba petra paadal. situation paadal kooda. ovvoru varigaLaiyum anu anuvai naan rasitha paadal !This song has been sung by Zubeen, who is very popular singer in bollywood. Indha oru reason, i was so excited to hear this song from this movie. Kabilan has written this song well.

The song goes like this :

KaNgaL en kaNgaLO

Hei Ranjit & Zubeen.. good composition man. I simply love this song!

Adutha interesting paadalnu sollanumnaa "Veyil" song.. kunal kanjawalla paadinathu.. he is another popular singer in hindi field. Its a slow melody.. a mayakkum thaalatunu sollalam.. he has sung this song beautifully.. excellent tune. . I just like the way he says " I love you"....I love this song too man !

Adutha likeable song " naethu vecha meen kuzhambu" song.. meen kuzhambum pitza bunnum pudikumaanu kaetkira paadal.. kaekumbothae naaku ooruthu.. paatum thaan.. a good enjoyable song. Enakku pudicha varigaL intha paadalla sollanumna "azhaagana oru vaazhkai enakku pudikumae!" azhagaana intha paadalum enakku pidikumae !

Vairamuthuvin varigaLil, hariharan voice-il "narumpookkaL" paadalil "RagaLai" seithu irukiraar Ranjit Barot.. Hariharanodu duet padi irupathu new voice Nandini Srikar -aam.. Vairamuthu varigaLai style-aaga paadi asathi irukiraar ! Hariharan voice kaetkanuma ? sollave vaenaam.. kalakki irukaar ! Hei Ranjit.. too good yaar ! Its messmerising !

"Nanba nanbaa" endra paadalai kunal kanjawalla paadi irukiraar. Enakku piditha Pa.Vijayin varigaLai kunal kanjawalla kuthari irukkum inimaiyana tune kondapaadal! it is easy to sing like kunal kanjawalla.Just put one plaintain in your mouth, grind it slowly and try to sing this song and now You are the sensational Kunal Kanjawalla. Still he has sung well with his limitations.

This films hero is Nanda. A failure hero searching for one good big hit. Hope he finds one through this movie and Sherin of Azhagiya asura song whistle fame is the heroine. She also wants to ressurrect her heroine post with this movie.

My Recommendation - Worth buying a CD not only for this movie but also for Bonus Songs that comes along with this CD and all the songs are superhit and hummable numbers. The last one being sung by my favourit female singer “mathangi” and the song is “jeevan engae” from University.

Train - Hindi Audio - Music Review

This album is special and reasons are aplenty.

First and foremost The Train marks the debut of Mithoon as a sole composer for an entire album. Before this soundtrack, the young lad has been coming up with consistently good results for his rearranged tracks 'Woh Lamhe' [Zeher] and 'Aadat' [Kalyug] , a superhit 'Tere Bin' [Bas Ek Pal] followed by equally popular tracks in 'Anwar' ['Maula Mere', 'Javeda Zindagi'] .

Secondly, the lyrics of the album are written by Sayeed Quadri, the man who has been fast forming an association with Mithoon for majority of his compositions. Identified with quality lyrics, his work has been speaking for itself, especially during last couple of years.

Thirdly, the film stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead. Emraan and popular songs go hand-in-hand.

Last but not the least, the film is produced by Shyam and Narendra Bajaj who have been producing medium budget, but successful films, for around a decade. Their last release 'Aksar' [starring Hashmi] was a musical hit.

With so many factors indicating a good musical outing, one expects nothing but superior quality of music. Well, get ready to hear an album that boasts of a very good soundtrack!

Now this has to be a really unique combination, and a good one. Not just it is surprising to see the return of Shilpa Rao behind the mike, her 'Javeda Zindagi' [Anwar] continues to haunt forever. Mithoon too can't resist the temptation of coming behind the mike and doesn't he more than justify his decision? Coming across so very convincing as the voice of Emraan Hashmi in 'Woh Ajnabee', he does quite well with his boyish charm truly reflected in his voice.

A fresh tune in the offering, the song belongs to Shilpa even more than Mithoon as she amazes with her hold while singing a dance floor song with as much comfort as the semi-classical 'Javeda Zindagi'. Add to that the arrangements which make this Indian/Western fusion track sound better on repeat hearing. As a composer, Mithoon brings a new sound yet again as he brings Indian melody with western arrangements.

That is exactly the reason why one takes time to relate to the tune before it starts sinking in after you have given it the number of hearings it truly deserves. By the time you have heard the original track around 5-6 times, you are completely hooked on to the music. Don't blame the composer if you find yourself humming the track all the way to your workplace!

The man of all seasons, who else but K.K, is roped in for just the right kind of song that he deserves. 'Beete Lamhein' begin with a slow built-up through faint sound of instruments [mainly guitar] and by the time K.K. is ready to croon 'Dard Mein Bhi Ye Lab Muskura Jaate Hain, Beete Lamhein Hamein Jab Bhi Yaad Aate Hain', you know that this is going to be one entertaining album with variety galore.

If you have liked the rock ballads of 'Metro', you would love 'Beete Lamhein' for sure as it adds on to the genre that is fast picking up in Bollywood. A song about remembering the love that once used to be and the beautiful moments.

Mithoon's third track 'Mausam', he brings as many as three versions - 'Original', 'Club Mix - by Akbar Sami' and 'Progressive Mix'. Starting with the original, it basically continues the mood of 'Beetein Lamhein' and it almost seems as if the K.K. rendered track had never ended. A track about a man who is extremely sad about the way his life has treated him over the years and is hardly finding a way out of his misery, it is entertaining nevertheless despite his theme.

If you have been a fan of 'Aadat' [Kalyug] and 'Woh Lamhe' [Zeher], you would grab 'Mausam' with both hands. Mithoon surprises yet again as singer because after showcasing a boyish charm in 'Woh Ajnabee', he shows his range as he lends his vocals for a character who is down and out and probably even a little drunk!

After a dance floor number 'Woh Ajnabee', gear up for the track belonging to the same genre - 'Teri Tamanna'. Composer Mithoon proves yet again that for creating a dance floor number, it is not necessary that the pace of rendition too should be super-paced. Even with the K.K and Zubeen singing at a moderate pace, the song creates a mood of seduction amidst moments of intimacy.

Unlike 'Woh Ajnabee' that took its own time to come on your lips, 'Teri Tamanna' is an instant winner. 'Teri Tamanna' too arrives in two more versions - 'Club Mix' and 'Euro Mix' - and as expected the results are entertaining once again. The 'Club Mix' lives up to its name whereas 'Euro Mix' has something about it which makes it a haunting hear.

Lyrics like 'Zindagi Train Hai Waqt Ke Track Pe' is followed by the sound of a train arriving from a distance further followed by the drum beats. After almost a minute, things settle down and Shaan returns to crooning. With zero-disturbance mood helping its cause, it is a good hear though not the kind that makes for a chartbuster.

A philosophical track about life and the way it changes track while leading you to unplanned destinations, 'The Train - An Inspiration' is at maximum a situational track and should be making an appearance at multiple places in the film's narrative.

Mithoon and Sayeed Quadri do it well yet again to create an album that is up market with a universal appeal. Emraan Hashmi can comfortably add the album to his ever growing list of popular albums with this time around the USP being a 'consistent mood' of the album! There may be multiple tracks in The Train but they all contribute to the feel of the film's theme. The transition from one song to another is almost seamless which makes The Train a complete album to hear.

My pick of the album is "mausum" just because mithoons voice is "awesome" and it takes us to a new world !

Recommendation - CD

Movie Review - Naan Avan iLLai

Naan Avanillai Movie ReviewCast:

Jeevan, Malavika, Namitha, Sneha, Jyothirmayee, Keerthi Chawla
Direction: Selva
Music: Vijay antony
Production: V Hitesh Jhabak

Took time to watch this movie. Some films are made classically. Some films are made technically. Some films are made commercially. This film has been made intelligently. Though it looks like extension of Thiruttu Payale, the movie do have all the ingredients to enjoy.

Indha padathoda highlightnu sollanumna, its the dialogue writing. Pattukottai Prabhakar, had done commendably well especially his witty sarcasim. With jeevan playing anti hero in this film too, its a cakewalk for him.

Adutha highlightnu paartha songs. Vijay antony has given some good songs in this film. Nee enakku kavithai naan unakku rasigai.. song is too good to watch and listen.

Coming to the storyline,

Naan Avan Illai is the story of Joseph Fernandes (the original name of Jeevan’s character); a genius who does not believe in hard work. He uses all his natural talents at conning people and drives his elder brother to desperation. Jeevan is soon placed under the watchful eyes of a friend of his elder brother. But as fate has it, the friend is a politician and the fraud that was struggling to grow within Jeevan finds fertile soil. With a little bit of encouragement, Jeevan is convinced that swindling people out of their money is the best thing to do in life. After that Joseph Fernandez disappears from the film, but Jeevan remains there. Well, it’s like this. A permanent name and identity can prove harmful to the health of a trickster and so Joseph Fernandez changes identity even before you realize.

From here on, it is the story of five beautiful but gullible women (one at a time) and Jeevan. He befriends, promises big things, sometimes marries and always in the end disappears with a big amount of money leaving no trace behind. Saying more about the story would not be in the right spirit. From Namitha to Malavika, all the ladies fall into the trap without exception

What makes the movie interesting is the way in which he cons all the ladies. The writer-director of the movie, Selva must have worked overtime to device such foolproof methods. One can’t help but wonder whether the movie is a biopic of the writer. There is not a single loophole to detect in any of the methods used. Jeevan is at his best while swindling women, as he proved with Thiruttu Payale. His playboy looks and body language fit the character like a glove. Jeevan is the automatic choice for playboy in Kollywood.Coming to the heroines, there seems to have been a glamour contest in the movie. Each of the ladies has a song all for themselves and all of them have used their opportunity to the fullest, they sizzle. Anyone going to the theater expecting a heavy dose of glamour will not be disappointed; the five leading ladies have not been wasted.

I liked the way Keerthi chawla has been cheated :-) the dialogues in this portion are comical, witty and sarcastic. A good dig at people going after saamiyars !

On the technical front, one must commend both the camera (E.K.Sendhil Kumar) and the editing (Suresh Urs). Both of them have lent certain richness to the movie. Dialogues - crisp and sharp, by Pattukotai Prabhakaran add strength to Jeevan’s character. Finally, the music by Vijay Anthony too does not let you down. The only glitch in the movie may be the stunt effects that could have been better taken care of.

All in all, a commercial entertainer that is close to flawlessly scripted and neatly executed. There’s lots of color, lots of glamour and lots of excitement; enjoy your time in the theater. But remember, the techniques that have been used in the movie have been conceived and performed by professionals, do not try it in your life! You could end up in jail :-)

One final word: ‘You get as good as you give’. Jeevan, for all his fraudulence, does get the wrong end of the stick towards the end and that’s where the sixth lady enters. Does he survive the bad turn of fortune, does he carry on as Casanova, watch Naan Avanillai to find out. It’s worth it.

Is it a remake of the yesteryear Gemini Ganesan starrer? Well, don’t bother yourself with unnecessary details. It’s a good movie, enjoy it. At last, Paruthiveeran has competition now.

This picture has created interest in me to watch the original Sambar Gemini Ganesans' movie - naan avan illai ! Let me look out for this VCD when i visit chennai.

Nishabd - Movie Review

I think i must be the last person in this world to review this film. I was able to grab a DVD of this film. I usually dont miss any Ramgopal varma movie. This movie i thought must be a failure movie as it dealt with old manz love story so thought i should give this picture a miss when it was released. Now i regret why did i do that ? :)

I never use to see any film on DVD or VCD continuously. Atleast i take three days to complete a movie. This film, i just sat and completed in one shot :-)

The film had good locales, good photography, excellent background music and the two songs for this film has been beautifully tuned.

Amitabh is in his own impeccable style. Jia Khan is the new heroine. Her voice is sexy. The song sung by her (take lite) is too good. Amar Mohile has tuned this "Take Lite" song beautifully with some new sounds. Jia looks so hot. Her shakes and moves in this song, wow.. treat to watch. For me, she looks like Indian Jennifer Lopez. Iam a great fan of Jennifer Lopez. The one similarity between me and her is both had born on same day, i.e. July 24.

Everybody must be having their own heart throbz. From the day i watched this movie, Jia Khan has become my HOT throb :-) Everybody has acted naturally. Good to see revathi and nasser speaking hindi in this movie. Let me not talk about morality or possibility of these kind of relationships and deprive the due credit this picture deserves. I think the picture failed because of the climax. If the relationship was accepted then there will be a furore among the public and suddenly all culture creature will come out against this movie.

I think after so much of thinking, ramgopal varma would have settled for this kind of climax.Watch this picture only for Jia khan & amitabh.

7.Friends Forever
Vineeth sreenivasan / arjun / shaan rehman / jakes

8.Pranamam
Sung by James

Though I liked all the songs, my pick of the album is

1. malayalee

A high pitch song beautifully sung by hariharan and jakes. Jakes has good voice. I liked the way the lenghty "malayaleeee" being sung :)

2. mazha mazha

The song starts with rain in the background.. starting looked shabby, then the tune is followed by my favourit folk tune in kuthu format :) A good song for dancing.

3. minnal azhagae

The song opens with some unknown language which looks very familiar to us :-) This song I was totally confused whether this is malayalam song or tamizh song. Though some of the words of malayalam and tamizh looks similiar. This song to me looks like mixture of both thamizh and malayalam. Vineeth sreenivasan at his best. There is a bit rap portion sung by maya. Gud to hear a female rap :) and i went crazy about this song listening maximum number of times.

To conclude, this entire album is there for everybody carrying different moods in each song.

Welcome Jakes Bejoy, to the world of music :)

I recommend CD, as the CD is priced only Rs.75/-

Grab your CD now and enjoy !

Bheja Fry - Movie Review

After watching a film like Mayavi, this time I was careful enough to choose a movie which I felt I should not get disappointed.

I always try to watch an off-beat movie and would like to see why it was success, if it runs successfully and why it failed, if it had failed.

This Bheja Fry is one such movie, where you will not get every Friday. There is a punch tag in this movie "TGIF" (thank god its friday).

I should thank God it was saturday :)

Without knowing anything about this movie, I took a risk by choosing this movie and to my surprise right from start till end it was fun and only fun.

I should say there is no hero in this film and only "situations" are superheroz.

The film has only the following castings:

Sarika, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Milind Soman, Bhairavi Goswami.

Only with 8 characters in this movie and only a few locations, one song, the director has presented us a superb movie which is a laugh riot till the end.

Even people who dont know hindi can also watch this film as most of the dialogues are in English as well.

Coming to the storyline,

Bheja Fry is a non-vegetarian Indian delicacy which in Hindi slang stands for 'racking brains'. And much to your delight the film doesn't live up to its title in any way. Bheja Fry is as vegetarian a comedy film can get without any double meaning innuendoes or slapstick strokes of the David Dhawan or Priyadarshan variety either.

Neither does it rack your brain but stings your stomach with the hysterical laughter pangs induced throughout its runtime. The main ingredient in this Bheja Fry is an idiot who is the hero of the film. And the idea to have an idiot as the hero isn't idiotic at all. The idiot here isn't really dumb but is least conscious or bothered about the world around and doesn't realize that people are laughing on his expense.

If you just ponder, you will come across so many idiots like these in real life. Vinay Pathak plays one such idiot with utmost conviction.Bheja Fry is a story of a group of affluent high society men who organize talent dinners every Friday night. And what are these talent dinners? It's a dinner where all these riches get in one such idiot of their own, who unassumingly displays his stupid talent and the group is entertained on his expense.

The one who gets the most entertaining idiot wins. Ranjeet Thadani (Rajat Kapoor), a music company owner is in hunt of one such 'bakra' for his talent dinner. And then he stumbles upon Bharat Bhushan (Vinay Pathak) whom he invites home. Mr. Bharat Bhushan who considers himself as a singer looks forward to this dinner.

Ranjeet wife's Sheetal (Sarika) detests her husband's nasty ways of deriving fun and leaves the house out of annoyance on the dinner day. Further things go wrong when Bhushan lands up in the house followed by a lot of unexpected guests including Sheetal's ex-boyfriend (Milind Soman), Ranjeet's girlfriend (Bhairavi Goswami) and an income tax-officer (Ranvir Shorey).

Bheja Fry is a film that doesn't impress by its technical finesse of some superior camerawork or editing patterns. The entire essence of the film lies in its well-etched script. Technically one could say that the screenplay of the film written by Arpita Chatterjee and Sagar Ballary has only around 5-6 scenes with the major part of the setting being in Ranjeet's house.

But the writing texture is so superlative that not for a second you get a hint of monotony. The screenplay basically evolves from its wittily penned dialogues by Sharat Kataria. And the dialogues are perfectly supported by the impeccable coming timing of the cast. Also the screenplay carries a lot of conviction which can be corroborated by the fact that Bharat Bhushan, who has no reason to stay back at Thadani's house after the first 15 minutes, remains there till the end of the film without looking forced.

Every time he is asked to leave the house by Thadani, the writers give him some compelling reason to stay back.Without any second thoughts, Bheja Fry belongs whole-heartedly to Vinay Pathak.

What a talent he has ! Even his looks makes you laugh.

We have seen the actor in small roles here and there but with Bheja Fry he would emerge as one of the finest comic talents of Indian cinema. And this statement is not an exaggeration by any means. His look, mannerisms, vocabulary, dialogue delivery, laughing style and many other such minute detailing add utmost level of authenticity to his character.

Not just his comic timing is flawless, so is his spontaneity. And unlike other comic actors of recent times who make you laugh by poking fun of others, Vinay makes you laugh at his character's expense. Rajat Kapoor as the victim of the idiot's antics compliments Vinay Pathak at every step.

He essentially acts as the reactor here, getting aggravated by his continued inanities. Unfortunately the usually dependable comic genius Ranvir Shorey disappoints with a made-up facial expression and a fake accent throughout his part. Fortunately he is just in a special appearance.

Without a star-studded cast but with some brilliant script and performances, Bheja Fry might just turn out to be the Khosla Ka Ghosla of this year. This is one recipe that is sure to induce strong stomach ache not because it's indigestible but because you can't stop laughing and frantically falling off your seats.

Strongly recommended!

Maayavi - Malayalam Movie Review

After a long time, I had watched this malayalam movie of Mammooty.

The film was only 7 reelz. I dont know malayalam and being in mumbai, still I wanted to see this movie and wanted to know why people are crazy about Mammooty.

The show was housefull. South bound movies are always housefull in Mumbai on week ends.

The film opens with jail background, and my immediate feeling was, it is an opening sign for me that i had been locked in a jail by watching this movie :-)

Our hero mammooty enters and after a tiredfull fight gives some advice to the jail inmates and immediately sings one opening song :-) with plate and spoon on his hand !

I was trying to search for a story in this movie and unfortunately i could not find one till the end :-) Lot of characters had been wasted just like that.

There are only two villains and they repeatedly get beated by our hero.. Sometimes he takes the beating and his heroism goes for a toss.

The heroine, Gobika comes like a doll, dances, cries, deciphers few dialogues and thats it. This must be a bonus movie for Gobika. Being mammooty'z heroine, she would have got hefty payments without much efforts on her part in this movie.

The only consolation part in this movie was a comedian who tickles us in few places by his comedial look.

Why dont keralite people ask Mammooty to retire atleast as a herO ! For me, he looks pretty old in this movie and his face clearly shows that.

I had taken a vow, i should write only positive things in my blog. But, I had written negative views about this movie. Atleast I could help few people by not wasting their time on this movie. I was told that this movie is a chartbuster and blockbuster in Kerala. God save keralites.

The only positive sign about this movie is, I had developed lot of patience in ME by watching this movie till the end. Which is a great achievement in this world :-)

Mammooty fanz please pardon me. I am not against him. He is such a wonderful artist. But he has been totally wasted in this film. He should choose better subjects.

Mera Gham - Audio Review

While searching for some new music / beats and new voices, I laid my hand on this album titled

"Mera Gham" sung by Babbu Maan.

Babbu Maan has penned, tuned and sung all the titles from this album.
The CD carries the following songs.

1. ek raat
2 .ajnabi
3 .mera gham
4. barsaat
5. kinara
6. phone
7. haseena
8. pathar

The first song "ek raat" he has sung excellently with some energetic foot tapping music. This song is my pick of the album and already I had heard this song maximum times.

Gud one Babbu maan!

The title song "mera gham" is another slow melody which impressed me very much.

My next pick will be "barsaat" again some wonderful tunes by babbu maan.

Overall, all the songs are hummable and you dont get the feeling to neglect any song.

I recommend this album only for the first song "ek raat" which is worth listening any number of times.

Meet - Blaaze - Rap sensation !

His name is Lakshmi Narasimhan Vijaya Rajagopal Sheshadri Sharma Rajesh Raman. And he is a rapper. Known better as Blaaze, the artiste who made his entry into the Indian music industry through `B to the A' for the Rajnikanth starrrer `Baba,' has been working on many of the musical legend A.R. Rahman's works.

Having worked on Rahman's`Kisna-The Warrior Poet' and `Warriors of Heaven and Earth,' their latest venture is `Pray For Me Brother,' an anthem for eradicating poverty.

The rapper who hit the limelight through his rap number with Big B in `Bunty aur Bubli' says he owes his success to years of perseverance. "My first number in the industry was `East or West' (Judwaa) for which I did not receive any credit. I was disheartened and realised one needed a godfather in the industry. But I never gave up dreaming or hoping for a break. You need a never say die attitude if you want to survive in the industry."

It was Sivamani who introduced Blaaze to Rahman. Although the first meeting did not prove fruitful, the second time worked a charm. "The first time I met Rahman, he asked if I could rap in Tamil. I said as I thought in English, I normally rap in English, but I could try. I guess it was the "I could try" that stayed in his mind. It was my wife, Nandini, who works for Sony Music who got me the opening when she met him for a recording. She asked if he remembered me and the rest is history."

Blaaze says he has reached where he is today through his parents' encouragement. His first stint in rapping happened during a presidential election campaign in Zambia where his father worked. "I wrote a poem about one of the candidates. My father, R.V. Raman, then took me to the television station and I rapped it out in front of the camera." The candidate won and it helped boost Blaaze's morale.

According to Blaaze, he always writes his own lyrics. "I think it's important especially for rap as you are saying what's in your head."

A relatively new genre in the Indian music industry, Blaaze admits it is difficult introducing the Indian listeners to his style of music.

"Most people think rap is all about `Yo Yo Yo.' To me Rap is `rhythm and poetry' and I try to spread a social message in a non-preachy way through this. The artiste says he adheres to Rahman's advice of taking things slow. Blaaze who is known as Rajesh to his family says Blaaze is his rap name. With `Sivaji' out, Blaaze is on a roll. He is looking forward to his album `Zambesi funk' to hit the stands in June.

Another album will have him working with a "real prince." "Yeah, I will be working with Prince Ali, the Nawab of Arcot.

Uppu kallu - Bombay Jayshree

I happened to hear this lovely piece of melody sung by Bombay Jayshree for the film

"Karuppusaamy Kuthagaikaarar".

Music is by Dhina.

A lovely composition and Bombay jayshree has sung exceptionally well.

It is known that she accepts to sing only after hearing the tunes of the entire song..

and whether that song will fit her voice to that song.

Whatever song she has chosen to sing so far are super hits.

This song one more feather to her cap.

Veeraappu - A preview

Director Sundar C, heard 40 stories before he decided to sign this film which is being directed by Badri.

This film is the remake of Malayalam super hit "Spatikam".

This is the second venture of Sundar C, after his becoming hero in "Thalainagaram".

Sundar C's assistant Badri is the Director of this movie which has Gopika as its heroine.

Incidentally, Badri is the director of "MalargaL", the mega serial of Sun TV.

Interview - Nishikant Kamat - Evano Oruvan

Nishikant Kamat's eyes sparkle and his body seems filled with a maniac energy when he talks about cinema. And once he starts, it is very difficult to get a word in between. Perhaps it is his ability in translating this passion into celluloid that brought him laurels, not only in India but also abroad, for his debut movie `Dombivli Fast' (Marathi, 2006).

The movie was shown at film festivals in London, Los Angeles, Stuttgart, Florence, Dubai and Singapore, and won many audience poll and jury awards. This year, it is scheduled to be screened at festivals in Rio de Janeiro and Sydney.

It swept the Maharashtra State Film Awards, winning prizes for best director, film, actor, editing, screenplay, cinematography, and dialogue.

Though Nishikant is basking in the limelight now, bringing his dream to fruition was not easy. "Every producer I went to wanted two songs, fights and comedy scenes in the movie. But as I did not agree, no producer was ready to work with me. It took me one-and-a-half years to find a producer who shared my vision."

Thanks to the attention the urban, gritty movie received, Bollywood directors Abbas and Mustan bought its rights (this is their first production venture), and Nishikant was given the choice of remaking it either in Hindi or Tamil.
"I felt the story was more suitable for regional cinema, than Hindi. That is why I decided to make it in Tamil." Madhavan, Seeman and Sangeetha were brought on board for the Tamil version, `Evano Oruvan,' which, he says, is not a carbon copy of `Dombivli Fast.'

Before he began shooting, Nishikant came and stayed in Chennai for one-and-a-half months. "I travelled in buses and local trains during peak hours, watched movies in theatres sitting in the front row, ate at local joints and went on long walks to learn about Chennai and Tamil culture." He incorporated all his experiences in the Tamil film. As he wanted interesting faces, he auditioned around 400 people, and finally used around 100 of them in the film.

`Evano Oruvan,' he says, is a very realistic film. It is the story of an ordinary man "... who lives in Palavanthangal; gets up early to fill water from the tanker; takes the local train to work [at a bank] everyday; eats thayir saadam for lunch; and buys vegetables on the way home after work. It is about the problems he faces every day — water, corruption, garbage on the roads, traffic indiscipline. It portrays his angst, and how he deals with it. What happens when he decides to question the wrongs happening around him?"

"These problems are not specific to any city. The people in Los Angeles, Dubai, Singapore and Germany were all able to identify with them. The problems are universal. And the common man is the same everywhere."
He candidly admits that `Dombivli Fast' was inspired by Martin Scorsese's `Taxi Driver.'

"When I started writing the movie, I realised that my protagonist was very similar to the one in `Taxi Driver.' The storm in the minds of the protagonists... that is what is common to both the movies."

That Nishikant lives and breathes cinema (he claims to know at least a 100 movies by heart) would be obvious to anyone meeting him for even a few minutes. But few know that he is also crazy about comics (Indrajaal Comics especially) and is a voracious reader (he is still under the spell of the "The Kite Runner," months after he read it.

He actually wanted to make a movie on the book, but then found out that the rights had already been sold).
Nishikant's next movie is also on another issue close to his heart, something, which affected him on a very personal and emotional level — the bomb blasts in Mumbai's local trains in 2006.

Nishikant has already started working on the cast of the movie, which will detail the blasts' aftermath. Shooting for the movie, for which the script is already ready, will begin sometime in May or June 2007.
